P4NV

Parenting for Non-Violence (P4NV) began building community capacity for violence prevention in metropolitan Chicago in September 2012. Parenting education organizations with evidence – based curriculums in support of the mission of violence prevention were researched. Active Parenting Publishers and 24/7 DAD were chosen as the primary provider due to the diversity and quality of their programs. Various communities were contacted to determine interest, which was immediate and positive.

Partnerships

The P4NV establishes partnerships with requesting sites. The sites identify individuals with potential to become facilitators and leaders; most of our facilitators come from the local community are an important and unique component of the program as they understand and better relate to the attendees.

Ongoing Support and Collaboration

Additionally, the sites provide the space, utilities, childcare providers, technology and meals. P4NV provides ongoing support in the form of additional leader training and mentoring, continued collaboration with host sites, stipends for facilitators, and childcare providers, marketing materials and parent guides. This unique partnership has been designed, not only to provide parent attendees with new skills, but develop leaders in the community which strengthen the community and provide outreach and welcome to their neighbors.

Workshops

Independent of the relationship with individual sites, the role of P4NV is to continue to expand its workshops to additional sites, by responding to requests as awareness of the program spreads and by inquiring about potential interest in areas that are identified as being in most need.
